Stimulations or Game Enhancement

Blog 3: Describe where simulations or games might be appropriate to use to enhance learning in your lesson.

In my storyboard, I took full advantage of using stimulations. The videos and audios used engage the learners while demonstrating how to write a speech and give a speech. I used an agent throughout the storyboard to create a personal learning environment. This user chooses from three different agents to be their public speaking expert; therefore, stimulating the learner by giving him or her control. Informal language is also used, as the user will be able to connect with the agent more as language is more conversational.

Research-based Guidelines

Blog 2: Evaluate how you applied research-based guidelines to your lesson and how these guidelines enhance learning

All of the e-learning principles used in my storyboard are based off of research. The principles used have been proven to help aid in the learning process with-in an e-learning environment.

The collaborative activity promotes teamwork and allows users to look at the activity from different perspectives.

Effective use of graphics, text, and audio are used throughout the storyboard to enhance learning.

Worked examples allow learners to see how a speech is written and presented correctly. Research shows that people imitate what they see. Therefore, using worked examples allow users to see how a speech is done correctly and effectively.

E-learning Principles

Blog 1 :Explain the e-learning principles your lesson includes and how they promote critical thinking skills.

The public speaking storyboard includes several e-learning principles including the coherence principle, redundancy principle, personalization principle, and the contiguity principle. Each principle promotes critical thinking by using cognitive thinking. The learner is actively engaged through visuals and auditory.

·         The redundancy principle effectively combines graphics with words without over stimulation.

·         The personalization principle creates a personal learning environment which engages the learners a personal level.

·         The coherence theory eliminates any unnecessary sounds, graphics, or text that hinders the learner experience by distracting the learner.

·         The contiguity principle places text and graphics near one another.

The learner will have several opportunities throughout the storyboard to use his or her critical thinking skills. The practice activity allows users to use their skills by answering a series of questions and the collaborative activity allows learners to identify certain parts of the speech making and presenting process.
